The Power of YOU

The Power of YOU

Disclaimer: Opinions are my own. Not medical advice.

Most people do not recognize the power they have to change the world. I was privileged to hear Mr. John O'Leary speak the other year. He is a motivational speaker who has dedicated his life to inspiring others. When he was nine years old, he suffered severe burns to his entire body and was not expected to live. Now, 30 years later, he is married with three beautiful children and uses his experience to motivate others.

Mr. O'Leary's message was about the profound impact one person can have on another. The strong belief of someone who invested their time, love, and faith in a young boy fighting to survive against insurmountable odds changed his life. In turn, that boy, now a man, is changing the lives of many. This is the power each of us holds within ourselves—the power of life. Even in death, the power of life can transform lives.

My son Brian died as a result of his own tragedy, but like Mr. O'Leary, he continues to change lives. From the ashes of Brian's death has arisen a story of inspiration and hope to motivate teens and adults to stop underage drinking. Brian represents life in its fullest form and at its most fragile state. No one is invincible, and we must never forget that.

One of the most important realizations in life is that "the power of your own circumstances can change the world." Whether you make good or bad decisions, they will change your life and the lives of others. You hold the most basic power in the universe to change the future: yourself. Every day, your actions influence others and shape the world around you.

Something as simple as a kind word to a depressed child or adult may prevent a death from suicide. An act of kindness to an aging person may restore their sense of purpose and self-worth. By setting a good example and being the change, you may prevent bullying, underage drinking, or drug use. You will save lives. The way you present yourself to the world influences others, even if you don't see it at the time.

Inspire others by standing up for what you believe and being the change. Don't be swayed by doubters. Believe in yourself and in what you can do for others. Remember the power of your own circumstances and how every decision you make can change lives permanently. Remember my son Brian and all he lost because of one bad decision. Never put yourself in that position. Change your circumstances to change the world.

The Power of Your Own Circumstances Can Change the World.

What can you do more? Inspire others.

Brian's death led my wife and I to inspire others. His ability to change lives was lost because of alcohol and a bad decision. Take home this message: every decision you make can change your life and others' lives permanently. Remember my son Brian and strive to change your circumstances for the better.

Best wishes,
